Live Literature Funding (Scottish Book Trust)

June 23, 2009

I’ve recently been added to The Scottish Book Trust’s author database. This means that if you are a school group, a writing group, or another community group, you now can have me come to visit you at a reduced rate. I can do a range of things, like writing workshops, and talking about books, or Travellers… or I can do a little dance… or I can make very delicious teabread.

School Visit

May 29, 2009

Thank you very much to the librarian, teachers and S3 students at Duncanrig Secondary School, who I met yesterday. I really enjoyed my visit, and it was great to answer the students’ questions about writing and Scottish Traveller traditions.

If anyone would like to enter the competition I mentioned, click here.

Helmsdale Workshops

April 18, 2009

In February, Chris and I led three creative writing workshops at Timespan in Helmsdale, Sutherland.

On the first week we wrote six word stories and recorded them. Listen below.

Artist, Suzie Mackenzie, turned one of the stories into a beautiful artist’s book. Click the image to visit her website.

On week two we wrote short stories based on old photographs collected from a junk shop.

On the final week we visited the ice house for inspiration. Chris took descriptions of the ice house from the writing and recorded them. These later became a piece of music, part of the album 1824 Seconds.

It was great fun teaching these workshops and I’d like to thank everyone who came along.
